Our Mission at CASP Technologies

Paving The Way to an Easier Surgery Process

Our product, Operation Serenity, is inspired by our surrounding area, Rochester Minnesota, which is famous for the Mayo Clinic Hospital. We recognize that the patient population in our area is high and that there is much anxiety about upcoming procedures, especially for pediatric patients. CASP Technologies is passionate about relieving anxiety before, during, and after surgery. We believe everyone should be given the opportunity for a non-stressful operation experience, no matter the age of the patient or the size of the operation.

Who We Are

CASP Technologies is a social enterprise based in Rochester, MN. Our product, Operation Serenity, is inspired by our surrounding area, Rochester Minnesota, which is famous for the Mayo Clinic Hospital. From the beginning, we desired to create a product that helped ease the stress patients feel when coming into the Mayo Clinic for treatment. One of our inspirations was that one of our co-founders had a surgery for a tonsillectomy when she was younger, causing her to feel scared and unprepared.

As student volunteers at the Mayo Clinic, we often see pediatric patients, some who have upcoming surgeries. After this experience of seeing these children so afraid, we wanted to do something that will allow pediatric surgery patients feel prepared and calm before their surgery.

The Industry-Leading App, Here to Help

Since 2020, Operation Serenity has offered users with cutting edge service. Exceptional customer service is our number one goal, and we are here to provide you with all the answers you need to make your user experience all the more enjoyable. See what some of our users’ most frequently asked questions are and get the answers you’re looking for today!

I’ve seen other Apps that serve similar purposes. What makes yours the best?

  • Other apps either help medical professionals practice procedures or are completely inaccurate surgery games only meant for fun. They do nothing to help the patient, whereas Operation Serenity effectively holds the patient’s hand and guides them through the entire surgical experience in an educational sense.

  • During our research and interviews with Child Life specialists and pediatric ENTs we found that preparing children for surgery is a necessary market that is not shown enough attention.

  • Although a patient may know a little bit about their surgery, they may not be able to visualize it, leading to anxiety regarding the unknown.

  • Our app, completely privatized toward the patient, will help them establish a connection within themselves and gradually become more comfortable with and proactive towards their personal needs. This app also provides answers to a patient’s logistical and “why” questions that may have not been answered before.

  • When researching our competitors, we noticed that none of the apps included resources that offer local help. We adjusted our app to provide our users access to key resources / events near their area to better enhance their medical journey. This is a key step in a patient's journey, as local support can help both emotionally as well as physically.

  • As we worked with a child life specialist at Mayo Clinic, she expressed to us that an app like this was greatly needed. Not nearly enough medical organizations have preparation programs for pediatric patients, and those that do often use games, toys, brochures, videos, and pamphlets to briefly inform a patient right before their surgery. It is often difficult for children to a get a good visualization of what will happen to them, as pamphlets are often aimed towards parents and outdated, and most surgery videos that can be found are too graphic for children.

How often are there updates to the App?

We are planning on releasing the app in December 2021 to the Google Play Store. We are currently working on a 2.0 version. Some of the things we plan to improve: app design/user interface, adding accurate 3D imaging and AR functions, adding sounds to the simulation, and expanding the reach of the local resources.

It all sounds great, but what does this App actually do?

  • Our app, Operation Serenity, is focused in the Health & Wellness Industry to allow children and teens to prepare for and perform their own simulated surgery to reduce anxiety and stress surrounding their surgery timeline. The app offers users the help to:

  • Prepare for surgery day by accessing local resources and various other tools to learn helpful tips and habits to best prepare mentally and physically for their surgery.

  • Understand the logistics of their surgery through performing a virtual, kid-friendly surgery simulation and having access to additional resources for a complete surgery process before, during, and after their surgery.

  • Relieve Stress with being informed on fun events and activities in the users’ area to take the mind off of the anxiety leading up to, during, and after their surgery.

Who are our influencers?

  • Early Childhood Family Services (ECFS)

    • In the 40 years as a program of Rochester Public Schools, Community Education has touched the lives of thousands of community residents, from birth through adulthood, meeting the learning needs of these residents through classes, events, extended experiences, support services, and childhood screening services. During an early childhood screening, the staff will check the child’s vision, hearing, growth, immunizations status, skills in thinking, communication and language, large and small muscle control, and social and emotional development. CASP Technologies has connected with ECFS to better understand the needs of our target users and therefore alter our product to benefit these users more.
